Mitt and Ed: Uninspiring leaders?

There has been considerable frustration on both sides the Atlantic at opposition leaders who have failed to capture the public’s imagination or excite their own party base despite poorly polling governments and continued economic hardship. Why have two large, successful parties only just out of government failed to produce the leaders their country needs?

Mitt Romney is most certainly not my first choice in this race, but he is my final choice.  This race lacked the gravitas of the 2008 contest.  I had wished upon anything that former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee would run.  He didn’t.  Then South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint declined a run.  Were he to run he would have almost certainly locked in the Tea Party vote.  New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was out, then thought about jumping in, then declined and backed Governor Romney.  It says a lot about the race when more focus is on those who declined to run than those already in the running.

It comes around once every four years and sees the whole global media circus descend on a poor, unsuspecting location whilst its inhabitants are the victims of mind-warping amounts of expensive advertising.
